She was born August 5th, 1935 in Rochester, Minnesota to the late Leo Bernard Kimmel and L. Marie Kern.
She is survived by her children, Douglass Olmsted of Brentwood Ca and Greg Olmsted of Cynthiana, Kentucky, three grandchildren, Angelica Olmsted, David Olmsted & Neil Olmsted.
Janet is also survived by her brothers, Bruce Kern, Lynn Kern and William Kern of Minn. and Sisters Linda Curtis, Elyse Kern, Kathy Dean, of Minn. Jeanine Dicus of Wis. and Susan Gamble of S. Car. along with numerous extended family ...
Janet is preceded in death by her husband Leonard Olmsted, her parents Leo Bernard Kimmel and L Marie Kern … and Brothers Blaine Kimmel, Richard Kimmel, Raymond Jr “Butch” Kern, J Derek “Pete” Kern and Sisters Judy Wyganowski and Donna French.
Janet worked as an elevator operator, telephone switchboard operator, but spent the majority or her working career in the semi-conductor industry in Silicon Valley, Ca.
Janet worked as an electronic assembler and as a woman in a male dominated environment mom advanced to roles in supervision and management of multiple staff and departments, finally finding her niche in the purchasing department as a senior level purchaser.
Janet a loving and devoted wife, never remarried after the passing of her husband instead, as a single mother she focused on providing for and the raising of her two sons.
Mom loved sports a devoted fan to the Raiders and 49ers, A’s and Giants.
Janet was a long time member of the Evangelical Free Church of Fremont and Newark Community Church in Ca.
Mom loved Jesus and was regularly in attendance at the Cornerstone Fellowship church in Livermore Ca, Golden Hills Community Church of Brentwood Ca, Antioch Mills Christian Church, Mt. Hope, Curry and Benson UMC in Cynthiana KY.
No matter where Mom lived or who she was visiting she loved Jesus and loved attending Sunday school, bible study and church often providing baked goods for any and all occasions.
A celebration of life will be at Brentwood Funeral Home in Brentwood Ca. on Monday Oct 21, 2019 viewing will be from 12 to 1:30pm services starting at 1:30pm followed with refreshments.
Janet’s final resting place will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens in NW Salem Oregon.
