I’d like to make a toast to the little boy picking cotton in Oklahoma. Following crops to Brentwood as a teenager.

To the man that traveled the world, passing on a trade that he mastered.

To the GED graduate, that showed us how hard work and determination can lead to a great life.

To the man who loved adventure and taking the back roads.

The man who loved Golden Retrievers and family gatherings.

His hobbies included: cheering for the Giants, all kinds of travel, reading, swimming, bowling, and golf. He even learned to fly small planes!

A story to be told.

On June 2nd at 18 years and 1 day, he married his first wife, Janice Smith. He was pumping gas and making $1 an hour. A trailer was called home. A few years later, he bought his first house in Brentwood where they began raising 3 children.

His career blossomed in his early 20’s at Kaiser Gypsum and Crown Zellerbach in Antioch where he quickly learned the Mill workers trade.

As time will have it, a new story is to be told.

Jim met a waitress some called ‘Cactus’ who was spunky and shared many of the same interests. And on March 9th, 1974, they married, and Eleanor gifted 3 young girls to the family.

Through the years his career included work with Georgia Pacific, Ichikawa, PBL, and others. After 10 years with Inland Temple of southern California, he semi-retired while still working consulting jobs. Once fully retired he enjoyed many years playing golf, walking his dog and spending time with family and friends.

Preceding in death by his wife of nearly 50 years was Eleanor (Davison) Wood. Son, Johnny J. Wood and daughter Karen R. Nelson. Siblings: Patricia Elmore, Janet Watson, Shirley Bettoncourt and Allen Wood.

Survived by son, James (Randy) Wood, and daughters Robin K. Bell, Lori Cunha, and Debbie Nelson. Grandchildren: Ruby (Dana) Bell, Jennifer Martinez, Justin Schreiber, Eric Schreiber, Elizabeth Neville and Sarah Cunha. Ten Great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
