Conchita Juanita Alberta Louise Schwanke Creager (“Juanita”), 95, passed away on Thursday October 9th, 2025, in the comfort of her home with family around her. She was born on January 7th, 1930, to Minna Mable Mahnke and Albert Louis Schwanke in Oakland, CA. She worked as a telephone operator, seamstress, stamp engraver, and loved to bake cookies and fudge. She met her husband, Walter “Walt” Creager, on a double date. They were married on the 25th of January 1950.
They spent many years in Brisbane, CA with their seven children, and were avid members of the San Francisco Horsemen’s Association (SFHA), of the Fraternal Order of Eagles (FOE), and the Moose Lodge. She was a loving wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She followed Walt to Round Mountain, CA where they lived out their retirement and joined the Rambling A’s car club. After he passed away, she stayed in the area for some time but eventually settled in Antioch, CA, where she remained until passing.
She was a big fan of soap operas, Hallmark movies, and bull-riding, and could watch them all day long. She knew how to have a good time and could tell you stories of motorcycle riding, horse chasing, and how airplanes were the worst mode of transportation ever invented.
In more recent years, you would be hard pressed to find her without a puzzle on her table and coffee in her hand. She loved to watch the hundreds of hummingbirds that came to her feeders each year. She would always have her dog in her lap, flowers growing, and an Elvis collection that was too big to know what to do with.
Juanita is preceded in death by her parents (Minna Mable Mahnke and Albert Louis Schwanke), her siblings (Allen Schwanke and Richard “Dick” Schwanke), her husband (Walter “Walt” Creager), and three of her children (James “Jimmy” Creager, Charles “Chuck” Creager, and Jerry Creager). She is survived by many loving family and friends including her children (Judy Sours, Donald Creager, Marlene Garner, and Louise Aquino), their spouses, and 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
A visitation for Juanita will be held Thursday, October 23, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Brentwood Funeral Home, 839 First Street, Brentwood, CA 94513, followed by a chapel service at 2:00 PM. She will be laid to rest beside Walt in Montgomery Creek, CA at Halcumb Cemetery District.
