Leo Francis McGoff Jr.

Leo was born on February 16, 1930, to Leo and Fannie McGoff in New Bedford, MA. Leo was a graduate of New Bedford High School, class of 1948, and attended Southern Massachusetts University (B.S. Textile Chemistry), receiving his degree in 1963.

Leo met the love of his life, Cecile Mercier of New Bedford, MA, while they were both in high school and wed in 1951, going on to have four children, Leo Francis III, Mark, Cathy and Peter. Leo and Cecile celebrated their 74th Wedding Anniversary on April 7th of this year.

After graduating from Officer Candidate School - The Infantry School, in Fort Benning, Georgia, Leo joined the U.S. Army on active duty as a Second Lieutenant in July 1952. He went on to serve his country in the Korean and Vietnam wars, as well as foreign duty assignments as a military intelligence officer in Panama and Brazil. He was awarded numerous awards for his exemplary military service, including the Army Commendation Medal, the Legion of Merit, Combat Infantry Badge, Korean Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Purple Heart. He retired from the U.S. Army after nearly 25 years, in 1976. Leo went on to a second career in senior corporate security roles for companies such as Levi Strauss & Co., Chase Manhattan Bank and the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA).

Leo was preceded in death by his son Leo Francis McGoff III and is survived by his wife, Cecile, his children, Mark (Janet), Cathy (Shannon), and Peter (Sherri), his beloved grandchildren, Jason, Lauren, Samantha, Megan, Erin, Oliver, Maddoc, Garrett and Jake, and his great-grandchildren.

A visitation for Leo will be held Tuesday, June 24, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Brentwood Funeral Home, 839 First Street, Brentwood, CA 94513. A mass will occur Wednesday, June 25, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 500 Fairview Ave, Brentwood, CA 94513. A graveside visit will occur Thursday, June 26, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Rd, Dixon, CA 95620.
