Funeral services will be held at 10am, Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at First Missionary Baptist Church, located at 640 E. Tregallas Rd, Antioch, Ca 94509, with a brief visitation from 9:30-10am. Burial will immediately follow at Union Cemetary, with lunch being provided from 1-3p at First Missionary Baptist Church. Her family would like to share this time with family and friends to reflect and celebrate the life of "Jolene".
Jolene was born on August 9, 1950, and was raised solely by her mother, Hazel A. Taylor. She attended Liberty Union High School in Brentwood, California where she met and married Darald Martin in December of 1967. They graduated in 1968 and moved to Antioch, California where they spent the next 20 years together, raising their four children Drezden, Schuyler, Corbin, and Kailin. She was an employee of the City of Antioch for 22 years, and was elected the City Clerk from 1998-2011, when she retired. She was a member of her local church, First Missionary Baptist Church for most of her life, and enjoyed spending her free time volunteering for city organizations and attending city events. Her caring eyes, warm hugs, and infectious smile and laughter, made her easy to love. She adored her children and grandchildren, and made everyone she met feel loved and appreciated. Her time away from work was spent enjoying a good book or movie, going to the beach or a museum, taking long lazy drives with her friends, cuddling and caring for her many cats, and spending time with her family. Family and friends were always very important to Jolene, and she was loved by many.
Jolene is preceded in death by her mother, Hazel A. Taylor and her step-father Woody Taylor.
Jolene is survived by her four children: Drezden, Schuyler, Corbin, and Kailin; Daughter-in-laws: Amy and Mindy Martin; Son-in-law Jay Martins; nine grandchildren: Kirstiauna, Riley, Tanner, Gabriella, Taylor, Mason, Adelynn, Olivia, and Seth; three great-granchildren: Benjamin, Maerose, and Ellis; "second" mother Jean McCain; ex-husband Darald Martin; Sister-in-law Beverly Kniss.
In lieu of flowers we ask that a donation to the Alzheimer's Association be made in Jolene's honor at https://www.alz.org/ to help us make an impact on Alzheimer's Disease, and spread awareness.
