OBITUARY

Marie E. Cruz

April 27, 1933January 15, 2021

Marie passed peacefully in her sleep on January 15, 2021.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, Jack. She is survived by her children Delinda Sybert (Peter), Stephen Cruz (Lorraine), and Denise Freitas (Robert), eight grandchildren Bobby, David, Elysia, Lisa, Camille, Kristen, Morgan and Sydney, along with 3 great grandchildren and her sister, Dorothy Burnette.

Marie was born in Los Angeles to her parents, Jack and Pearl, in 1933 and spent her early childhood in Southern California. Later, she moved with her family to a ranch in Shingle Springs where she was able to spend her time riding her beloved horse. Her family later relocated to Lathrop, CA, and she graduated from Manteca High School.

It was in Lathrop that she met her husband and love of her life, Jack. Soon after marrying, they moved to Knightsen, where they spent the next 45 years building their family. After her children were grown, she earned her degree in dental hygiene at DVC and worked the rest of her career as a dental hygienist in Brentwood. In retirement, they moved to Summerset II in Brentwood and traveled extensively. They vacationed on five continents and loved traveling the western US in their Pace Arrow RV, often with their beloved grandchildren tagging along. Her favorite destination of all was Ka’anapali Beach in Maui, where they made almost annual trips.

When at home, she enjoyed working on various art and sewing projects. Her love of gardening always kept the backyard looking magazine worthy. She was also very devoted to working on genealogy and was able to trace her lineage back over 400 years. In later years, she was able to accomplish her goal of joining the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She will be laid to rest at Union Cemetery in Brentwood.
