Part II

Shortly thereafter, I met the man that I am currently married to. It’s funny how things change and shift and leaving Matt & Roxy to move to Arizona was one of the hardest things I had to do. I missed the family times and weekend visits. I’m thankful that my family (Paul and the kids) got to visit Matt, Roxy & the kids during a summer vacation in 2014. We were settling in for the evening and I think we were watching a movie after the kids had settled down in their sleeping bags. We heard some fireworks close-by and not to much sooner afterwards, there was a knock at the door. I’m not sure who would be knocking at 11pm (or it was late) but Matt calmly answered the door and there was a person that answered stating that there was a fire on the roof. We woke the kids up - while Matt and Paul acted quickly and took a hose and put out the fire. It really could’ve been a bad situation but the calm demeanor and quick acting of our men didn’t put a damper on our evening but created a memory that our kids still talk about to this day.

I can still hear Matt’s voice in the background when I call or talk to him before handing me over to her. I still miss his laugh and the fun times that we shared together and game nights. I wanted to bring him and Roxy to visit us in Idaho. So many things that I still wanted to enjoy with my friends. Even though my friendship started with Roxy, I count Matt as a treasured friend and I’m really going to miss him.

Matt has always been a very sweet and tender-hearted man but in order to describe him to you, we need to go back. I met Roxy when her and I worked at Intel (gosh, seems so long ago now, can’t believe almost 15 years ago). I visited Roxy in the hospital and a friendship formed. Not only did I gain her friendship, but also with Matt, Jared & McKenna.

Matt was a quiet man but had a gentle strength about him. He was even tempered and honestly I don’t recall a single time where he lost his temper. He loved playing games with his wife and kids and there was numerous weekends that I would come over and be included in the family fun nights and play games with them for hours. One of my fondest memories of him is when we rented a pontoon boat and just spent the day on the river as a family - fishing and visiting and just hanging out.

I also remember when I was dating a guy that I thought was going to be “the one” and both him and Roxy had a hesitation. I didn’t listen to them at all because I was so focused and intent on wanting a family of my own. It hurt our friendship but looking back, it was brief and our friendship mended even stronger than before. God used Matt because he reached out to me to make sure that I was okay. I had broken up with that guy and apparently he showed up at Roxy & Matt’s house - their sense was right on and learned thru that to trust the input of those that love us most.
