

Merlin (Merle) Ray Johnson, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2022 at the age of 87 in Brentwood, CA. Merle was born on August 5, 1934 to Raymond H. Johnson and Anna C. Johnson in De Smet, South Dakota.
Merle grew up on his family farm in De Smet, South Dakota and attended the Johnson School. He then joined the Marines and served in Japan during the Korean War. After the war, he was stationed in Port Chicago, CA. When he completed his service in the Marines, he decided to remain in California and pursued his career as a machinist. He retired from the Chevron refinery in Richmond, California in 1989.
Merle was preceded in death by his (younger) sister Rose Mary Quam and his (younger) brother Lowell H. Johnson.
Merle is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Margot A. Johnson, two sons, Lorne Ray Johnson and his wife Janice of Fremont, CA, Randall Lee Johnson and his wife Kelly of Salisbury, NC, three loving grandchildren, Victoria, Rachael, and Ryan Johnson of Fremont, CA. Merle is also survived by his (older) brother Richard E. Johnson of West Jordan, Utah.
Merle was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church. Merle will be missed tremendously by his family and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Brentwood Funeral Home, 839 1st Street, Brentwood, CA 94513 on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at 10:00am.
He will be laid to rest at Union Cemetery, 11545 Brentwood Blvd, Brentwood CA 94513 at 12:00pm.
