Mike Granelli, 65, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2025, after thirteen years of living with cancer. Anyone who knew him would tell you that cancer never defined him. What defined Mike was his unwavering love for his family, his quick wit, his enormous heart, and his uncanny ability to bring joy into any room he entered.
Born and raised in San Francisco on July 30, 1960, Mike was the beloved son of Dominic and Elena Granelli, who preceded him in death. Mike is survived by his wife Sue, his sons Tony (April) and Joe, his grandchildren Dominic, Cecelia, and Beckett, sister Deb (Ron) and brother Ken (Kelly), and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mike met the love of his life Sue, where the stars aligned and they were married for 41 years, and raised a family they could both be proud of together. Mike was a proud dad who supported Tony in athletics and Joe in the music and arts.
Mike began his professional journey at Texas Instruments, but it wasn’t long before he joined his father’s construction business, Granelli Construction. After 35 years of being a general contractor, Mike was promoted to being a full-time grandpa. He relished every moment of being a grandpa, whether it was playing Appleberry, making them laugh, or simply watching them grow with pride in his heart.
Mike was a man of many passions. He could often be found on the golf course, his second home, chasing birdies and cracking jokes. He had a love for music, could play a tune on the piano without missing a beat, and enjoyed being center stage. A proud Star Trek aficionado, Mike’s collection of memorabilia, including his famously decorated Star Trek Christmas tree, reflected his enthusiasm for the things that made him smile.
But what truly set Mike apart was his spirit. He was the first to lend a hand, the last to leave a party, and the kind of person who made others feel seen, heard, and loved. His humor, humility, and genuine kindness left a mark on everyone lucky enough to know him.
Though he’s no longer with us, Mike’s legacy lives on in the family he adored, in the friendships he nurtured, and in every life, he touched with his warmth and laughter.
His final message to everyone would be: “Live long and prosper.”
A private memorial celebration will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family requests donations be made to the charity of your choice in Mike’s memory.
