She passed into Heaven on November 4, 2023, in Brentwood, CA
She was 92 years old
She was the 7th of 9 children in her family. Her early years were spent on a farm in Oklahoma, where she worked with the horses when her dad and brothers were away working in another town, thus earning the title of “Tom-Boy”. Right after the Dust Bowl, in approximately 1940, the family moved to Brentwood, CA.
They lived at Davis Camp, and Nellie met Paul Elkins there. In April of her 16th year, Paul and Nellie married. She continued to go to Liberty High School and graduated in January of her 17th year. In August of that year, they had a son: Bansen. Nine years later, they had a daughter: Varan. The small family lived in Davis Camp and the surrounding area until approximately 1958. In 1958 they were able to purchase a home in Fremont, CA and the family relocated there. Paul passed into Heaven in 2004, and Nellie continued to live in that same home.
Nellie and Paul shared a love that few can imagine. That’s not to say, they didn’t argue; however, they knew God made them for each other.
Nellie was the only red-head in her family, and a “Tom-Boy”. She enjoyed family trips to the lake to take the boat out; camping in the camper and later in their motor home; and being a homemaker to her family. If there was problem, she attempted to help find a solution.
Nellie is pre-deceased by her husband, Paul; her brothers: Woodard Stolhand, Warren Stolhand, Earnest Wayne Stolhand Sr, and Glenn Stolhand; her sisters: Flossie Reasor, Ruby Stapleton, Hazel Taylor, and Clara Faye Stolhand.
She leaves behind with cherished memories of her: her son, Bansen Elkins (Michelle); her daughter, Varan Garro (Mark Sr), Grandchildren: Bansen Elkins Jr (Armida), Mark Garro Jr., and Angela Gallagher (Timothy),; great-grandchildren: Kaylee Elkins, Timothy Hooper, Kirsten Hooper, Mackenna Hooper, Savannah Hooper, and Ava Gallagher. Additionally, she leaves behind, with memories, her friends and other family members not mentioned here.
Bansen and Varan would like to thank those who have taken an active interest in caring for our mother, especially Isaiah and Deborah Elkins, and Lorica and Vin Hipolito.
