She was born on February 10, 1938, in French Camp, California, to Horace Boris Ewing and Dorothy Winifred Orem Ewing. Pat grew up mainly on the West Coast and attended Richmond Union High School in Richmond, California. She often credited much of her positive spirit and personal strength to the loving example of her grandmother, Edna Williams.
On June 18, 1955, Pat married William Lewis “Bill” Parscal, the day after high school graduation. Three days later, together, they joined the Air Force—Bill enlisted, and Pat was his faithful sidekick. Their early years took them from California to Illinois to Maine, and after leaving the Air Force in 1958, they settled in Concord, California, where they built their life and raised their five children. Pat was proud of her children and often joked that she was shocked they "all grew up to be good citizens".
Pat lived in Concord from 1958 to 2003, before moving to Brentwood and then Discovery Bay in the early 2000s. A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in many capacities, giving freely of her time and talents throughout her life. She spent several years teaching boys in Primary: Cub Scouts and Guide Patrol. She served in her ward in Young Women’s, Primary, Relief Society, as Road Show Director, and on the ward activities committee. For 10 years, Pat contributed to the Oakland Temple Pageant, assisting with auditions and the Parade of Nations. She also served as a merit badge counselor, scout committee member, and on the board of review for Eagle Scout ranks.
Her greatest passion was Girls Camp. She served as a camp leader for five years, Stake Camp Director for eight years, and oversaw the Regional Campsites in the San Francisco Bay Area and Sacramento for 12 years. She was the only female Vice President and camp representative for the Liahona Club for 12 years. Called by Elder Quentin L. Cook, she served as the Northern California Young Women’s Camp representative for 20 years, overseeing all Girls' Camps in the region. Many of these callings overlapped, a testament to her tireless devotion. One of her favorite memories was being among the first to walk through the waist-high ferns at Rucker Lake Camp in 1975 when the LDS Church took over the camp—a place that remained dear to her heart for the rest of her life.
Professionally, Pat was employed for 16 years as a special education teaching assistant at Ygnacio Valley High School in Concord. Her students and colleagues loved her, and she enjoyed teaching at the same school that her children and some of her grandchildren attended. One of her proudest moments each year was calling the names of her students as they walked across the stage to graduate.
Pat was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She is survived by her five children: David (Christy) Parscal, Donald (Melanie) Parscal, Douglas (Athena) Parscal, Christine “Tina” (Glenn) Briggs, and Elizabeth (Barry) Lance; 18 cherished grandchildren; and 28 treasured great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Ardith Parra and Elizabeth Heritage; her grandson, Chad Lewis Parscal; and her two beloved husbands: William Lewis “Bill” Parscal, with whom she shared 49 years and 11 1/2 months of marriage (1955–2005), and William Ralph “Bill” Richardson, with whom she shared 14 years and 11 1/2 months (2006–2020).
Pat was a woman of remarkable intelligence, wit, resilience, and kindness. Even as life brought challenges, she faced them with grace and strength. She taught us the value of faith, service, and love in action. Known for her warmth, creativity, and tireless work ethic, Pat touched countless lives. She was a friend to many and loved by all. Her legacy of faith, patriotism, and service will continue to inspire for generations to come.
