Dear Darlene and Family:

I am very saddened to hear of Ray's passing.  I got to know Ray when I worked at PG&E's headquarters office in San Francisco.  Then our friendship resumed when he hired me at the City of Santa Clara.  It was a privilege to work with, and for, Ray.   He was a wonderful man, a fantastic boss, and a good friend.  When I was struggling getting acclimated at Santa Clara, I would share my transitional experiences with him, and he would chuckle - tell me not to worry about it.  Yet I knew he cared - he just wanted to take the pressure off, to help me clear my mind.  He really listened to his employees - his door was always open, and he was very fair.  I learned a lot from Ray.  After he returned to the Bay Area after spending time in Seattle, we would talk on occasion, as one of his clients was going through some similar things as had Santa Clara.  We would always take the time to share something funny, or of interest - like music.  I remember one of our conversations about the band Limp Bizkit.

It was clear that family was very important to Ray.  My thoughts and prayers are with you all.  I miss him.

Like Pete (Scanlon), I also worked with Ray while he was the Utility Director of Silicon Valley Power.  Ray was such a joy to work with--thoughtful and kind, with a laugh that made you laugh right alongside him.  You and your family are in my thoughts.

Darlene and family - I am so sorry for your loss.  Ray was a great man - I enjoyed working with him when he was still with Santa Clara.  He was very smart and focused, yet fair and considerate.  He always maintained a positive outlook and calm demeanor in the face of stressful, difficult issues.
