Richard D. Milford, fondly called “Dick”, was born to Donald J. and Elizabeth (Parker) Milford on October 13, 1934 in Eugene, Oregon. Richard spent two years serving his country in the Army stationed in Germany. Upon returning home to Eugene, he married the love of his life, M. Jeannine Gordon, on Aug 31, 1957. Last year they celebrated sixty years of marriage. He put his talent for being able to fix anything to work with the Southern Pacific Railroad which offered him the opportunity to transfer and bring his family, which had expanded with five beautiful daughters, to California in 1973. After more than a three decade career, Richard retired as the Work Equipment Supervisor for Southern Pacific Railroad. His district spanned from Pasa Robles to Eureka. His phenomenal strength and determination helped him to overcome many obstacles including eight years of dialysis treatment at Fresenius in Brentwood before he passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at home on July 14, 2018.
Richard is survived by a large and loving family including four of his daughters, Susan Anderson (Matt), Sandra Lile (Tom), Shannon Shahan (Garry), Stacey Kerby (Brent), fourteen grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and his brother David Milford of Junction City, Oregon. He is preceded in death by his daughter Sharon Parker, and grandson Jason Anderson.
A man of limitless talents, Richard enjoyed woodworking, welding, gardening, working on cars, and the challenge of fixing anything that needed to be fixed. He had a tremendous spirit and work ethic that allowed him to get through any challenge with good humor. He was a true “MacGyver” and hero to his daughters and grandchildren. He will be missed every day.
Richard’s family invite all who knew him to help celebrate his life. Services will be held on Tuesday, July 24th at Brentwood Funeral Home located at 839 First Street in Brentwood, California. The viewing will take place from 10:00 am to12:00 pm followed by the memorial service from 12:30-1:30pm. After the services conclude, there will be a graveside burial at Union Cemetery at 11545 Brentwood Boulevard.
