

It is with great sadness that we must announce the passing away of our father Robert Herschel Reed on Friday September 9, 2022. He was 92 years young. He was surrounded by family as he peacefully slipped away and we are heartbroken to lose him. He is survived by his two sons Robert Keith and Gary Von, their wives Karen and Suzy, four grandchildren Robert James, Courtney, William, and Alex, two sisters Frances and Kathy, and his long-term companion Lynda Oliver, who will all miss him dearly.
He was predeceased by his wife of 40 years Willa Rae, his parents Oscar Newton and Lillie Mae, his brother Oscar Shelby, his sisters Bernice, Jo Anne, Betty, and Dorothy.
Robert built his home in Brentwood from the ground up from 1971-1973 where he lived for the rest of his life.
He was a long-term member of the Diablo A’s serving as president and had driven his 1931 Model A Ford coupe all over the country and Canada after doing a complete frame off restoration in the early 1970’s.
Robert was a Marine Corps combat veteran having served in Korea and Japan in the 1950-1952 time frame. He was also a long term and very proud member of the Delta Diablo Detachment of the Marine Corps League serving in many positions over the years.
He worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad as a Fireman and then as a Switchman from 1955 until his retirement in about 1992.
Services will be held at the Brentwood Funeral home on Thursday October 6th 2022 at 9:30am. The funeral home is located at 839 1st St Brentwood, CA 94513
A brief graveside service with Military Honors will follow at ~11:00am. This will be at Brentwood Union Cemetery located at 11545 Brentwood Blvd., (Highway 4) Brentwood, California. (This is 3-4 miles from the funeral home).
A celebration of Robert’s life will follow the graveside service at the Brentwood Veterans Memorial Building (BVMB) from ~Noon-2pm with a light catered luncheon. The BVMB is located at 757 1st St in downtown Brentwood about 2 blocks South of the funeral home.
