Sandra Lee Haley (Sandy) was born on September 14, 1947, to Thomas and Joyce Haley in Taft, California. She was the eldest of four daughters — Irene, Sherry, and Pam followed after her.
The Haley family shared a deep love for music, often singing together at Christian Temple with Thomas on guitar, Joyce and the girls — affectionately known as The Haley Girls — harmonizing beautifully. Sandy also played the accordion and loved making music with her family. Sandy lived with her family in Oakland for many years before relocating to Brentwood in 2003, where she remained until her home-going on October 10, 2025.
She attended Patten Academy of Christian Education through junior high and graduated from high school in 1965. Sandy went on to enroll at Patten College, joining the “God’s Messengers” class and graduating in 1969. She later attended Holy Names College in the teacher education program.
Sandy married Raymond Wright, and from this union two children were born — Brenda and Darin. [The marriage later ended amicably.] On June 18, 1982, Sandy married Paul Sowell in a beautiful ceremony in Israel, and together they faithfully served the Lord for more than four decades.
A devoted member of Christian Temple and later Christian Cathedral, Sandy used her many talents and selfless spirit to serve in numerous ministries. She taught elementary, middle, and high school students in the social studies concentration, making history come alive for her students. She also taught Home Economics and Christian Manners, blending practical skills with biblical principles.
Sandy gave tirelessly to the ministry of The Trumpet Call (the church newspaper), traveling and helping spread the gospel. She was a faithful participant in fundraising efforts during the years of campus expansion. As Dr. Priscilla’s assistant with the Youth Choir, Sandy coordinated travel and activities as the choir ministered locally and competed in ACSI musicals. She took great joy in supporting the young people and seeing them grow in faith and confidence.
Sandy deeply loved Dr. Patten and delighted in adding special touches to bless her. She also served as food service coordinator for both the schools and the church, taking pride in the presentation and taste of countless celebrations and events. Her creativity and care made every occasion feel special.
For many years, Sandy also worked alongside Dr. Moncher as Property Manager and Plant Operations Director for decades. With a remarkable eye for beauty and potential, she could envision what something could become — turning a simple space into something warm and welcoming.
Sandy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and auntie. She is survived by her husband, Paul Sowell; daughter, Brenda Howell; son, Darin Wright; [son-in-law, Steve Howell]; [daughter-in-law, Serena Wright]; grandsons, Travis and Colton Robinson; granddaughters, Haley Robinson and Kaylee Wright; sister, Sharon Anderson (Sherry); as well as many beloved nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
Sandy’s love for life and for people will be deeply missed on this side of heaven, but we rejoice knowing she is now in her forever home with Jesus.
