
Tom was born in San Francisco and graduated from Balboa High School where he set many baseball records. Years later his jersey was retired and was enrolled in the Balboa Hall of Fame. Upon high-school graduation, he went on to play for the New York Yankees organization where he played in many cities around the country. Because of his home run record, he earned the nickname “TOM THE BOMB”. In the off-season, he also played baseball in Nicaragua where he earned the nickname “Tarantula”. After his baseball career, he returned to San Francisco where he married his high school sweetheart, Joan, and began his career at Schlage Lock Company where he retired after 40 years of service.
Tom, son of Angelo and Catherine Tarantino (deceased) and father of Steve Tarantino (deceased) is survived by his beloved wife, Joan, devoted daughter Kristie Mathews and son-in-law, Jim Mathews of Oakley, and grandchildren Thomas E. Tarantino of Vallejo, CA and Sarah Mathews of Redding, CA. He is also survived by his brother Santo (Sonny) Tarantino of Florida. His spirit for life and humor will always be remembered by all who knew him.
