Her birth name was Amy, but later in life adopted her middle name. After high school, she and friends moved to Tuscaloosa, Alabama to work at a hoisery plant.
A trip with sister Shirley to see her husband at a veterans hospital in Charleston, SC, is where Jewell met the love of her life, Walter Jacques. She married him at age 19, on August 10th, 1952. They had a son, Walter in 1955 and a daughter, Wendy in 1961. Walter and Jewell were happily married for 72 years.
Jewell was a voracious reader and seeker of knowledge. She was coined a "Walking Encyclopedia" by her daughter. Without holding a single degree, she was a Master Gardener, Interior Designer and Top Chef, not to mention, a keeper of kids, a devoted wife and animal attendant. She loved red lipstick. coconut and anything chocolate. Jewell loved to laugh and was at the helm of making us laugh too!
We remember her with unwavering strength, convictions to the core and all things Red, White and Blue. Second, only to her Grandchildren Walter "Lee" Jacques (wife Grace) and Pups!, Murfreesboro, TN and Justin M. Jacques, Prattville, AL.
She is predeceased by her parents, Emma and Marvin Lester Sullivan, husband, Walter Leonard Jacques, brothers; Charles "Sonny" Sullivan (wife Gay), Lanny Sullivan (wife Sue), sisters; Carol Ann West, Shirley Moore (husband Johnny).
She leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter, carried on by her children, Walter L. Jacques (wife Brenda), Wendy Jacques Crumbley (husband Jeff), brother Robert Sullivan (wife Rosie), brother in-law Kenneth West and countless friends, nieces and nephews.
