

Barry Lee Britt of Mt. Juliet, TN passed away at home on Sunday, October 12, 2025 at the age of 79 after battling a longtime illness. He was born on August 16, 1946. As a country boy who grew up in a small town, Maysville, NC, he spent his childhood working in the tobacco fields and helping run his family’s boarding house. During his high school years, he drove the local school bus and played on the high school baseball team.
Barry graduated from Pembroke State College with a degree in Business Management in 1968. He was drafted into the Army in 1969 and served in the Vietnam War. After discharge, he started his career in Nashville, TN in the insurance industry in Claims Adjusting and Risk Management and then retired from the TN Department of Education in 2013.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Maxine Britt. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Nancy, and his children, Jason (Krissi) Britt, Austin (Holly) Britt, and Stephanie (Ben) Pugh. He was “Gramps” to Carter Pugh, Mason Pugh, Camden Britt, and Avery Britt.
Also, survived by his brother Greg (Carrie) Britt, his sister Janet (Jon) Wetherington, and his sister Gail (Eric Everett) Gouty.
Barry enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, playing golf, and watching football and basketball. In his free time, he loved “piddling” in his basement. As Gramps, he enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sports and events. Barry was a member of Gladeville Methodist Church and American Legion Post 281. He was an active volunteer for the Mt. Juliet Memorial Day Field of Flags for the last 13 years.
Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens on Monday, October 20th at 12:00pm located at 660 Thompson Ln Nashville, TN 37204. Visitation with the family will be at Gladeville Methodist Church, 8770 Stewart’s Ferry Pike, Mt. Juliet, in the Fellowship Hall from 4-7pm. Active Pall Bearers: Jason and Krissi Britt, Austin and Holly Britt, Ben and Stephanie Pugh, Carter Pugh, Mason Pugh, Camden Britt, and Avery Britt. Honorary Pall Bearers: Henry Key, Buz Leiffer, Bobby Wagoner, Randy Karschner, Paul Sides, David Pitts, Terry Pugh, Mike Gammons, and Mike Childress.
