Bettie Sue Pendley Mason

Bettie lived a life marked by determination, accomplishment, creativity, and a deep love for her family. She married Thomas E. Mason on August 5, 1978, in Nashville, Tennessee.

Bettie’s career began as an administrative assistant in the banking industry with Commerce Union Bank, now Bank of America. For many years, her strong work ethic and skill set led to various leadership roles, and she ultimately achieved the title of Vice President. In addition, Bettie was involved in the National Association of Bank Women and served as State Chairman of Tennessee. This position allowed her to attend conferences and participate in many speaking engagements throughout her career.

After leaving the banking industry, Bettie sought to explore her entrepreneurial skills and, along with a colleague, formed Mason-Hanley & Associates. This successful firm provided consulting services to enhance processes and revenue in medical practices.

Bettie and Tom shared a passion for travel both domestically and abroad. They were blessed to visit mainland China, Japan, the pyramids of Egypt, central Africa, and Asia, Sweden, Great Britain, the Beaches of Normandy and Auschwitz. Within the United States, they appreciated the beauty of Hawaii, Alaska, and the Canyonlands, and loved the vibrancy of New Orleans’ French Quarter.

After moving to Atlanta, Bettie chose to attend the Art Institute of Atlanta and pursue a degree in design. Her passion for art, color, and the need for creativity was once again met with a determination to succeed. This achievement provided much personal satisfaction and completed her longstanding working career.

Bettie’s later years were spent enjoying family and pursuing her interest in genealogy. She was a current member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Jamestowne Society.

Bettie will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Thomas E. Mason; her children, Catherine Diane Gordon; Royce “Bud” Pendley (Diane); Brian Mason; and David Mason (Christen); her grandchildren, Elizabeth (Seth) Maxwell, Ragan (Maclin) Williamson, Leah (Brandon) Goodwin, and Zachary Mason; and her nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Helen A. (Charles) Schwab, as well as numerous nieces and nephews who adored and loved her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frances Mable Sandlin and Lantis Vreelan Webb; her first husband, Royce E. Pendley; and her brother and sister-in-law, Maynard V. Webb (Marlene).

Bettie’s life was one of perseverance, achievement, creativity, and devotion to those she loved. Her legacy will live on through her family, the history she worked so diligently to preserve, and the many lives she touched throughout her remarkable life.

Visitation will be held Monday, September 28, 2026, from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. at Brentwood Roesch Patton Funeral Home, 9010 Church Street, Brentwood, Tennessee. A service will follow on September 28, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Old Fountain Head Cemetery in Portland, Tennessee, with immediate family invited to attend.
