Brent Ashley GREEN

December 29, 1964October 2, 2020

Brent Ashley Green, of Nashville Tennessee, passed away October 2 with family and friends around him. For eleven years, from diagnosis until death, he courageously fought stage 4 Glioblastoma brain cancer. He was 55.

Brent was born December 29, 1964 in Charlotte, North Carolina. At the age of eleven, Brent and his family moved to Davidson, North Carolina. He treasured his childhood. He loved growing up in the small college town where he rode his bicycle to Davidson College sporting events. In summer he worked the Davidson College Basketball Camps. In 1983 he graduated from North Mecklenburg High School. In fall of that year he attended Appalachian State University and David Lipscomb University while working on his undergraduate degree. After marriage and the blessing of his two sons, he went back to school. In 1997 he graduated from Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro with a Bachelor of Science Degree.

His adult work career, which focused on helping others, included: Williamson County Parks and Recreation, also Hendersonville United Methodist Church Arts and Summer Athletics Programs. For eleven years after his cancer diagnosis he resided at Leah Rose. Life there placed him in close proximity to his case study physicians and Vanderbilt Hospital during which time he formed many special friendships. He treasured walking across the street on sunny days, sitting on his favorite bench at Vanderbilt University. He rarely met a stranger. A walking almanac, Brent’s passion for both sports and people led him to countless Lipscomb basketball games and to Vanderbilt football games. He was a loyal and happy fan.

Brent is survived by his parents Louis and Loweda Green of Davidson, North Carolina, his sons Connor Green and Bennett Green of Franklin, Tennessee, his sister Meredith Hunter and husband Jeff and Jared Hunter (nephew) of Charlotte, North Carolina, and a host of friends. Brent’s family would like to express their sincerest gratitude to Brent’s best friend, Bill Wood, who supported Brent through his entire eleven year journey.

A Celebration of Life for Brent will be held on his birthday, December 29, 2020, in Nashville, Tennessee. A place will be determined at a later date due to Covid-19.

Memorials may be made to: Glioblastoma Foundation Duke University PO Box 62066 Durham, NC 27715

I am so saddened to hear of Brent's passing. I met Brent in college at ASU, through my roommate Frances DeArmon Justus, who went to high school with Brent. Along with our other roommate, Carole Blackburn Kersey, we hung out with Brent probably every day of his time at ASU. No matter how busy he was, he always made time for us. At that time he liked to keep his hair very short, and somehow I became his barber (even though I had no training!) But he must have liked what I did, because he got a haircut at least twice a week! He kept us all in stitches with his sense of humor and was a good friend who I have always remembered fondly. I'm so glad he got to go on and do so much good in his all-too-short life, but of course sad that he had to leave this world so soon. My condolences to his family.
