Sissy was born on September 6, 1936, in Athens, Tennessee to the late Jesse Hamilton Guinn and Elizabeth Long Guinn.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 68 years, Colonel James Roy “Jimmy” Miller (AUS. Ret.); her brother, Jesse H. Guinn Jr.; and her nephew, Steve Guinn.
She is survived by her three daughters, Jamea Miller Harper (Cy), Lauren “Lolly” Jewell Miller, and Mariam Miller Kohl (Jeff); four grandchildren, Cyrus “Rus” Wayne Harper III (Jenny), Elizabeth Miller Harper, Eleanor McKenna Kohl and Miller “Millie” Grace Kohl, of whom she was immensely proud; her nephew, Tony Guinn, and niece Susan Guinn.
She graduated from McMinn County High School in 1953 and attended Tennessee Wesleyan University. Together, Sissy and Jimmy raised three daughters in Knoxville before moving to Brentwood in 1976. After her daughters left for college, Sissy opened her own bridal business, Bride’s by Sissy.
Sissy met life with an enduring optimism that remained through breast cancer and multiple strokes. She was always ready to say “yes” to lunch with her girls and embraced opportunities to spend time with the people she loved. She enjoyed traveling the world with Jimmy, baking chocolate pies, reading, and playing bridge and golf with friends.
A devoted member of Brentwood United Methodist Church since 1976, she cherished her involvement in the Wesley Forum Sunday School Class, where she formed lifelong friendships with some of her dearest friends.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m., at Brentwood United Methodist Church, 309 Franklin Road, Brentwood, Tennessee. Following the service, family and friends will proceed to the church’s Memorial Prayer Garden & Columbarium, where Sissy’s ashes will be laid to rest. The family invites all guests to a luncheon in Haney Hall afterward.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Brentwood United Methodist Church in Sissy’s memory. Brentwood United Methodist Church, 309 Franklin Road, Brentwood, TN 37027.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to September Russell for her devoted care and, above all, her sweet friendship over the past eight and a half years.
