D .Michael Green

D. Michael Green, age 67, died on December 17. Mr. Green was born on January 6th, 1943 in Niagara Falls, New York to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Green. The son of a naval officer, Mr. Green grew up in the Caribbean. He was educated in the United States, with degrees from the University of Pennsylvania and California State University.

Mr. Green served in the U.S. Department of Transportation both in Washington and in California. He was the Chief Executive Officer and founder of The Early Childhood Foundation, dedicated to neglected and abused children. He was a member of the Brentwood Exchange Club and a board member for the Exchange Club Family Center, which serves the needs of neglected and abused children in Middle Tennessee. Mr. Green was a member of several public service organizations, including the Rotary and Lions Club. He was an active member and strong supporter of Brentwood United Methodist Church.

A Mensa member and expert on World War Two history, Mr. Green had an abiding interest in American history. He taught university level courses in that subject. Patriotism was a guiding force in Mr. Green’s life.

Mr. Green is survived by his wife, Sue Van Dyke Green of Brentwood; his aunt Jane Brown of Oxford, Maryland; brother Stephen E. Green of Virgin Gorda Island in the British Virgin Islands; and brother Christopher Green currently residing in France. He is also survived by stepchildren Lee Van Dyke of Nashville, Carla Beard of Brentwood, and Adam Van Dyke of Huntington Beach, California. His four step grandchildren include Aaron, Cameron, and Hunter Beard, as well as Ava Van Dyke.

Visitation will be held at Brentwood United Methodist Church from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM on Wednesday, December 22. Following visitation, a memorial service will be held in the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations in Mr. Green’s honor to the Exchange Club Family Center, 139 Thompson Lane, Nashville, Tennessee 37211.
