May 23, 1948 – July 22, 2025 after a long illness.
With heavy hearts and deep love, we share the passing of Donald Richard Poore, who left this world surrounded by family and love. Born on May 23, 1948, in Wilmington, Delaware, Don was the beloved son of Margaret and William Poore, and younger brother to William Wayne Poore.
Don is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Susan Poore, whose love and partnership were the center of his life. Together they built a family rooted in love, humor, and loyalty. He is also survived by his daughter Lesleigh Burton, son-in-law Michael Burton, and his treasured granddaughter Liveigh Burton, who brought endless joy to his life.
Don’s professional journey was as dynamic and wide-ranging as the life he led. Over the years, his career took him and his family across the country, with long-time homes in Delaware, Florida, and Tennessee. He held respected roles at Wilmington Dry Goods, JByrons, Service Merchandise, Ingram Books, and Shop at Home/HSN, among others. Whether buying, selling, or negotiating—every type of hard line goods or even live chickens at the Tennessee Farmer’s co-op—Don had a rare gift for business and networking.
Don’s interests extended far beyond work. He was an avid golfer and a loyal fan of the Phillies, Eagles, and Titans. He found joy in the simple pleasures—sharing a good meal and glass of wine, enjoying great music, and traveling to some of his favorite places, like New York City and Disney World.
Above all, Don was a family man and a friend. He deeply valued the time spent with loved ones, and his friendships—many of which spanned decades—were a testament to the kindness, humor, and warmth he shared with everyone around him.
His presence, laughter, and stories will be missed more than words can express, but his legacy will live on in the lives he touched and the love he gave so freely.
We love you, Don. Your memory will forever be a light in our hearts.
