

Arrangements under the direction of Brentwood Funeral HomOSTEN, Doris Katherine Turner Reichel - Left to be with her Heavenly Father on August 7, 2010. She was born on December 19, 1918 in Cullman, Alabama to the late Salome Grob Turner and George Adam Turner. She graduated from Cullman High School in 1933, attended Huntingdon College in Montgomery, AL, and graduated from the University of Alabama in 1939. She was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority and has continued her membership for over 70 years. She then served as personal secretary to Presidents Denny and Foster at the University of Alabama. Following graduation she married Maurice F. Reichel in 1940, who served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was later killed in action in Tarawa during WWII. Doris then attended Colombia University in New York specializing in communications. She was employed by RFD America and was the programming associate for the Quiz Kids Radio Show. In 1950 Doris married Reuben (Pete) A. Osten and they celebrated 56 years of marriage before his death in 2006. In 1957 the family moved from California to Europe where Pete worked for the DuPont Company and later the family moved to Wilmington, DE, Dupont’s Headquarters, where Doris and Pete resided for 33 years. In 1995, Doris and Pete moved to Nashville to enjoy their retirement years. Doris managed a travel agency for many years in Wilmington, DE. Her joys in life included travel and genealogical research. Doris, Pete and Kathy traveled extensively throughout the world. Doris was a member of First Families of Tennessee as a direct descendant of Peter Avery who settled in Tennessee prior to statehood. He is known for marking the Avery Trace which extends from Knoxville to Nashville. She was a member of the Cumberland Chapter of the DAR and the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. Doris was active throughout her life in the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. Her current membership was at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Nashville, TN. . She is survived by her daughter, Katherine Turner Osten and cherished family and friends around the globe. The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to Dr Bruce Richards, all of her caregivers and to Alive Hospice. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be given to American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, or The Alzheimer’s Association. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 10, 2010 from 10 a.m.-11 a.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 5110 Franklin Road, Nashville, TN 37220 followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. Graveside services will follow at 4 p.m.. at Cullman City Cemetery, Cullman, AL.
