Edward Ray Mathias

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edward Ray Mathias, born on March 15, 1934 in Pana, Illinois and passed away on July 27, 2023 in Brentwood, Tennessee. He was the beloved husband of Thelma Mathias (preceded in death) and the devoted father of Michael Mathias (preceded in death),

He is succeeded by his daughter Kathy Wegner, her husband Scott of Cicero, Indiana, and son David Mathias, his wife Lori of Nashville, Tennessee

Edward was a loving grandfather to Chad Wegner and Molly Wegner Stephanie Mathias Seaman, Jake Mathias and Luke Mathias. Great Grandfather to Carson Huene, Sophia Seaman, Alexander Seaman, Mitchell Wegner, Michael Wegner, Bridges Mathias and Blair Mathias.

He married his high school sweetheart Thelma Kay Klink after completing Navy boot camp in Chicago, Illinois Edward proudly served out his time as a Seaman at Guantanamo Bay Cuba. After the Navy He worked as a contracting officer for the federal government at TACOM in Warren, Michigan until he retired in 1989. He and Thelma then moved to Athens, Alabama, where he remained active with his grandchildren. He was a lifelong Mason and retained his membership at the Carmichael Lodge in Enterprise, Alabama.

Edward was active and enjoyed doing yard work and community service, shuttling dialysis patients to and from their appointments. He was also a member of the Westview Church of Christ in Athens, Al.

Edward was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

A Celebration of Life service for Edward will be held Saturday, August 19, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Brentwood-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home, 9010 Church Street East, Brentwood, TN 37027.
