She was born in Big Sandy, TN, and preceded in death by her parents Fred and Cecil Rushing, brother Walter Rushing, husband, Elwin Johnson, and dear friend Marshall Bracy. She is survived by her niece Stephanie Koeppel (David) of Rossville TN, nephew Robert Rushing (Julie) of Cadillac MI, and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
After moving to Nashville, she met and married the love of her life, Elwin Johnson, working together for many years operating their business, Johnson’s Cleaners. Ernestine was a dedicated, life-long member of Belmont Heights Baptist Church, enjoying all of the activities and the friendships made there. She enjoyed volunteering, anything related to horticulture, socializing and animals. She loved being outdoors and insisted on maintaining her large yard and acreage herself, well into her 90s. She opened her property up to the neighboring condos for their animals’ use, making more life-long friendships.
Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM on Thursday, September 10, 2026 at Brentwood-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home with services immediately following at 2:00 PM.
She leaves us rich in memories.
