

Frances “Fran” Elizabeth Watson Greene, 83, a devoted mother, generous volunteer, and immediate friend of literally everyone she met, died Monday, July 20, 2026, at Alive Hospice in Nashville with her daughters by her side.
Fran was born Feb. 10, 1943, in Montgomery, Ala., the daughter of William Roy Watson and Isabelle Edith Haigler Watson. She graduated from Sidney Lanier High School in 1960, then Auburn University in 1964. She was introduced by mutual friends to a handsome rascal named Tom Greene, who became the love of her life. They were married for 50 years until his passing in 2018.
She worked for St. Paul Insurance Co. as a computer analyst until her retirement in 1998. She sang for many years with Sweet Adelines and the choir at Holy Family Catholic Church, and she volunteered delivering food to other seniors through the Meals-on-Wheels program. In addition to conversation, she greatly enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, Auburn football, “Jeopardy!” and competing with her daughters on the daily Wordle. She was a longtime member of St. Philip Catholic Church in Franklin.
Survivors include her daughters, Nora Kate Greene Smith (Chris) of Clarksville, Tenn., and Ellen Greene Mangold (Michael) of Thompson's Station, Tenn.; and five grandchildren, Timothy (Vanessa) Civil-Smith, Margaret, and Wade Smith, and William and Olivia Mangold.
The funeral Mass will be Monday, July 27, at noon at St. Philip Catholic Church, Franklin, Tenn. Visitation will be at the church at 11 a.m. A reception will follow the Mass at the church. A private burial will be held at Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
