

Born in Laporte, Indiana on June 17, 1943, the son of George Stiteley Malo and Esther Nemeth.
George was a Presbyterian. A lifelong advocate for education, community development, and the preservation of green spaces.
He was a devoted Christian and a member of Christ Presbyterian Church. He also volunteered with Freedom in Christ Ministries-USA, contributing his expertise to online course development.
George was an educator and public servant, dedicating over 50 years to the field of education, serving as a teacher, administrator, and consultant. He retired as the Associate Vice Chancellor for Research and Assessment in the Office of Academic Affairs at the Tennessee Board of Regents. His impact on Tennessee’s educational landscape was significant and lasting.
Throughout his distinguished career, George held leadership positions with the Tennessee Department of Education, taught mathematics in public schools and community colleges in Springfield, Illinois, and served on the faculty at the University of Illinois. He also held adjunct teaching roles at Tennessee State University, the University of Tennessee, and Vanderbilt University. His academic credentials included a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois, a Master of Science from Indiana University, and a Bachelor’s degree from Blackburn College, where he continued to serve on the Board of Trustees until his passing.
Since moving to Brentwood in 1984, George became involved in the community as a member of the Brentwood Green Space organization. He worked to ensure that future development would respect the city’s commitment to livability and environmental stewardship.
When George managed to have some free time he enjoyed movie night with family and friends and indulging in popcorn and black cows (root beer floats). He also enjoyed wine and dining out.
George is preceded in death by his loving parents, his beloved wife Kathy, older brother John Malo Sr, and sister-in-law Dorothy.
George is survived by his brother-in-law Nathan McCutcheon; his niece Juliann Hillman-Malo and her daughter April of Texas; nephew John Malo Jr., wife Carla, and their children Allen, Samuel, and Alyssa of San Diego, CA; nephew Brian Malo, wife Melissa, and their children Marissa, Christopher, and Ryza, also of San Diego; nephew David Malo and spouse Paul Lawrence of Atlanta, GA; nephew Joshua Malo and wife Sarah of San Diego and special friend, Donna Jeann Golomb of North Carolina.
George will be remembered as a kind, thoughtful, and principled man who devoted his life to learning, service, and bettering the lives of others.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2025, from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM at Brentwood Roesch Patton Funeral Home, 9010 Church Street East, Brentwood, TN. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 PM. A graveside service will take place at 3:00 PM at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee.
