Born on November 12, 1949, in Hollywood, California, Gretchen graduated from Mark Keppel High School. She went on to build a long and successful career as an administrative associate in regulatory affairs at SEMPRA Energy, where she dedicated 27 years of service.
Gretchen was a proud and active member of several Elks Lodges, including B.P.O.E. Lodge #686 in Columbia, Tennessee; Lodge #2025 in Arcadia, California; and Lodge #1928 Alhambra- San Gabriel Lodge. Her commitment to community service was evident through her passionate volunteer work with veterans and the Friends of Foster Children agency.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Lisa Pettigrew; grandson, Dr. Lars Gunnar; and great-grandchildren, Peyton and Aria Gunner. She is also survived by her siblings, Holly (Voss) Escobedo and Gary Voss; and extended family members Joe and John Escobedo, Taylor Voss, and Jaymie (Voss) Martinez.
Gretchen was loved by all who knew her. She never met a stranger. In December 2020 she made the cross-country move to Tennessee with her daughter Lisa and her grandson, Lars's family. She loved Tennessee and always said how grateful she was to enjoy her time here. Family was her priority and her proudest accomplishment. She was promoted to GiGi in 2019 for the first time with the birth of Peyton and again in August 2021 with her 2nd great-granddaughter Aria. She cherished these girls and holidays were important to spend with her family.
Our family lost one of the brightest lights the day she was called home to the Lord.
