Jimmy Lee Turner, Jr. passed away at home on Saturday, May 10, 2014. He is preceded in death by his father Jimmy L. Turner, Sr. and survived by his mother, Barbara Turner, his devoted wife Ashley Nimmo Turner, son Justin (Erin), daughters Emily, Sarah and Ellie, stepdaughters Jessica (Josh) Wheeler and Kayte Oliver, sister Terri, brother Glen, numerous nieces and nephews, and legions of friends and extended family.
Born May 1, 1958, at Perrin Air Force Base, TX, Jimmy began his career as an EMT and then joined the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Jimmy was a proud Texan who converted to Tennessean by tuition as both daughters Emily and Sarah graduated from the University of Tennessee.
Jimmy continued his 34-year career joining Corrections Corporation of America in 1989. He served in numerous leadership positions in several facilities in Tennessee, Louisiana and Ohio before being promoted to Vice President of Operations in 1999. In 2010, Jimmy became the Vice President of Human Resources. His sphere of professional influence extended not only through out the company but also the corrections profession nationwide.
A devoted, loving father and husband, Jimmy was a mentor and “father” to many of his children’s friends and in his community. His motto remained consistent for all: “Do things the right way, not the easy way.” And, as his youngest daughter Ellie says, “He was the best daddy and nobody can replace him.”
Jimmy was honored by the American Diabetes Association as Father of the Year in 2013. An impassioned supporter of the March of Dimes, he served as a division board member and Ambassador with Ashley and Ellie for the past seven years.
