1935-2021
On Saturday, February 27, 2021, our beloved father, grandfather, brother-in-law and uncle, Louis Robert Scalise, of Franklin, Tennessee, passed away at NHC Place in Franklin. He was 85 years old.
Lou was born on December 16, 1935 to Josephine and Frank Scalise in North Adams, MA. After graduating from Drury High School in 1953, he went on to study Mechanical Engineering at Northeastern University. He graduated in 1958 and earned his first assignment as a mechanical engineer for Sprague Electric in North Adams, kicking off a forty-year career in his field. He went on to work at General Electric in Pittsfield and later retired from Lockheed Martin on January 1, 1997.
He and his wife Sally wed in 1974, and resided in Stamford, VT. He was an avid golfer and bowler. Together, they loved traveling and, most of all, spending time with family. Lou was also very involved in his community, serving with the Stamford Volunteer Fire Company for 30 years. In fact, in 2008, he received a Letter of Commendation from the Governor of Vermont for his service. Also, in 2008, Lou and Sally moved to Franklin, Tennessee. He was known for his meticulosity and precision in all he did. If anyone needed a picture hung on the wall, we knew who to call! Lou was intelligent, kind-hearted, and constant, and he loved desserts, particularly minced meat pie and ice cream. Lou will be greatly missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sally Ann Scalise who passed on July 9, 2018; his father, Frank Scalise, who passed on August 16, 1988; his mother Josephine Scalise, who passed on September 23, 1990; his brother, Frank; his sister, Marie, who passed on September 19, 1998; and his nephew and godson Robert Louis Chaput II, who passed on April 20, 1996.
Lou is survived by his first wife, Judy Ann King Scalise, their devoted son, David Scalise (Marci), his grandchildren, Anthony David Scalise, Nicole Marie Scalise and Ray Mathews (Lauren); great-grandchildren, Maylee Denise Mathews, Molleee Nichole Mathews, Roderick David Mathews, and Remy Mikel Mathews; his brother-in-law Robert L. Chaput (Mary), his sisters-in-law Luanne Fisher (Jim), Suzanne Pruyn, and Cathy Smith (Dean); his nieces Nicole Chaput Guizani (Zied), Joanna Smith Vance (Amber) and Rachel Pruyn (Michael); his nephews Daniel Pruyn (Laura), Tom Harris (Aimee), Joel Fisher (Lee), and Brendan Fisher; great nieces Azza Guizani, Sofia Guizani, Leila Guizani, Reece Smith Vance, Dakota Harris and Olivia Leonard; great nephews Matthew Harris, Liam Harris, Brody Harris, Burke Pruyn, James Pruyn, Miles Pruyn and Justin DiBenedetto; and many cousins.
Memorial services will be held at a future date to be determined in both Tennessee and at the Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Funeral Home in North Adams, Massachusetts with interment at the Southview Cemetery in North Adams. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Lou's name to the Stamford Volunteer Fire Department at 142 Stebbins Lane, Stamford VT 05352.
