

Ellen Marie (Hadley) Duncan, 98, of Nashville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2025. Marie, as she was lovingly known, was born on June 21, 1926, in Nashville, Tennessee, to Cappie Tolia and Thelma Louise (Keen) Hadley.
Marie’s life was marked by her warmth, compassion, and kindness. A devoted family matriarch, she was the rock of her family and a bright, outgoing presence in the lives of all who knew her. Her infectious warmth and love for life endeared her to everyone around her. Her family and friends will forever remember her as a brave, faithful, and friendly soul, always sharing her wisdom and a ready smile.
Marie attended David Lipscomb University for a year before embarking on a successful career. She worked as a sales representative at Dillard’s for 25 years and held positions at National Life and Thompson & Green Machinery, contributing her expertise with grace and dedication.
In her personal life, Marie had a wide range of passions. She loved traveling, especially visiting St. Petersburg Beach to see her sister, and was an avid fan of sports, particularly UT Football. A devoted reader, she kept up with current events and politics, reading the newspaper every day, and she treasured quiet moments spent listening to Frank Sinatra and reading her Bible every night. Marie also enjoyed the calming art of needlepoint embroidery, and she cherished the time spent in front of the theater, soaking in live performances.
Marie was deeply involved in her community through Crieve Hall Church of Christ, where she found fellowship and spiritual support. She was a member of the church for 42 years and before she became ill, rarely missed a service.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George Ralph Duncan, and her sister, Clara “Nahl” Love (Hadley) Chandler. Marie leaves behind a loving family, including her daughter, Jill Hadley (Steve) Elliott; her grandchildren, Logan Hadley (Kathleen) Elliott, Ariel Hope Elliott, and Jackson Steven Elliott; and numerous extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly.
A gathering of family & friends for Marie will be held Friday, February 21, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Brentwood Roesch Patton Funeral Home, 9010 Church Street East, Brentwood, TN 37027. Following the gathering of family & friends will be a graveside from 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home & Woodlawn Memorial Park, 660 Thompson Ln, Nashville, TN 37204.
