Mary Dunn passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early morning hours of May 19, 2024 at the age of 85, near her granddaughter Katie, in Brentwood, Tennessee. Mary was born in Los Angeles, California on June 11, 1938 to Italian immigrants Ermemnegildo and Edvidge Simonetti. She grew up in Los Angeles, graduated from Marshall High School and worked at Pickwick Park Pool and the Pantages Theatre before getting married at a young age and having four children. She divorced when her kids were very young and worked at Vons market for over three decades, before retiring from the Tarzana location in 2003. She loved seeing her “customers” every day and took pleasure in the fact that so many of them would intentionally come through her line to chat as she rang up their groceries.
Mary became a great-grandmother in the fall of 2006 and from that moment on, her life revolved around her great-grandchildren. They were her pride and joy. She spent a tremendous amount of her free time with them, never missing a school event, trip to the park, birthday party, holiday, family vacation, Disneyland day, sporting event, or opportunity to spoil them.
Mary had an immeasurable amount of love for her family. She was fiercely independent her whole life, had a deep love for all animals — especially her pets, she always bought way too many Hallmark ornaments at Christmastime, enjoyed breakfasts on Saturday mornings with her daughter, Sherri, and could be found many Sundays at her kitchen table reading the newspaper and watching golf on TV. But, most of all, Mary loved being loved and cared about by everyone around her. She had a handful of very dear friends that meant a lot to her and she kept in contact with many of her high school classmates over the years through helping plan multiple class reunions.
Mary may have been tiny in stature, but that was all that was small about her. Her endless love and vigorous spirit will be dearly missed by all who loved her. She is survived by Glen Dunn, daughter Sherri Bauserman (James), granddaughters Katie Allegretti (James) and Jamie Levin (Robert), as well as her five great grandchildren: Audrey Allegretti, Luc Allegretti, Claire Allegretti, and newest great-grandchildren Ellis Levin and Alden Levin. She is preceded in death by her youngest son, Steven Dunn, and her twin sister Louise Carr.
A funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Church. 18400 Kinzie Street., Northridge, CA 91325
on Wednesday June 5th, 2024 10:30am. Private family inurnment to follow at the San Fernando Mission Cemetery.
