Nancy Lynne Burky, age 75, passed away on July 5, 2025 following a seven-year battle with brain cancer. She was born in Bucyrus, OH on April 14, 1950 to Ruth and Alistair “Al” Clubb and spent an idyllic childhood with her two beloved siblings, Wendy and Bob, in the small midwestern town with the best bratwursts in the world.
She graduated from Miami University with a bachelor’s degree in education in 1972, and soon after moved to Atlanta, GA to teach home economics for sixteen years. Her time in the classroom profoundly shaped not only her students' lives but also her own. Teaching led to some of her closest friendships, and she carried the principles of home economics into her personal life, graciously entertaining friends and family with the prowess of Martha Stewart.
In Atlanta, Nancy met her future husband, Michael “Mike” Burky, and they married in April of 1978. A decade later, they had their first and only child, Kimberly, who was the joy of their lives. Mike always said that Nancy was born to be a mother to a daughter. She devoted herself fully to her family, volunteering for every school event and chairing auction projects, including the daunting task of teaching elementary students to embroider quilt squares. She also hosted many sleepovers, always with her famous Rotel dip at the ready and was known for offering a non-judgmental ear and sound advice to anyone who may need it.
With her warmth, charm, and subtle wit, Nancy had an ease for making (and keeping) friends. Generous in spirit, she reflected your best qualities back at you, bringing out the best in everyone. She was the kind of person you hoped enjoyed your company half as much as you enjoyed hers, and we are all luckier for having known her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mike Burky, her parents, Ruth and Al Clubb, and her nephew, Dustin Parmelee.
Nancy is survived by her daughter, Kimberly Stunkel (Daniel), and her cherished grandson, Sterling Stunkel. She is also survived by her sister, Wendy Parmelee (Bill); her brother, Bob Clubb; and her nieces and nephew: Alissa Parmelee, Stephanie Clubb, Maggie Clubb, and Andy Clubb.
