Peggy is preceded in death by her parents Rev Jack P. Phillips and Peggy Marie Price Phillips and a sister Deborah Reaves (Reeves).
Peggy is survived by her husband of almost 67 years, W. Austin "Doc" Whitehurst, whom she married two days after graduating from Jacksonville High School in 1957; one brother, Ronald P. Phillips (Wanda) and one sister, Karen P. Phillips; two daughters, Fonda Janiece Weidman and Paula Marie Rose (Michael); five grandchildren, Isabella Schmidt-Pestka, Lathrop Whitehurst Schmidt, Spencer Austin Weidman (Courtney), Michael Andrew Weidman, and Christian Alexander Rose; and two great-granddaughters, Penelope Weidman and callista Weidman.
Peggy accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at a very early age and was His maidservant throughout her life. She was always very active and willingly served in her church. Peggy taught Children's Sunday school, VBS, and led several Women's Bible Studies at First Church of The Nazarene, Little Rock, Arkansas for many years. She assisted in South Arkansas District Nazarene Women's activities. Peggy was an active member of Little Rock's Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary for many years. She served as SA Auxiliary President and was active in any official duties that were needed. While volunteering in church and community services throughout her adult life, Peggy continued to be in the workforce fulltime. Some of her employment included being a secretary in the insurance industry and later as a church secretary. All of Peggy's acts of service were acknowledged by her being named Arkansas' Mother of the Year in 2005.
Peggy enjoyed cooking, entertaining, ladies' luncheons, traveling, and spending time with her precious grandchildren. She was a loving mother to her two precious daughters and a constant encourager to her husband in any endeavor he undertook. She would often accompany Doc on his business trips on cruises and to resorts, often entertaining customer's wives as the men had meetings or played golf.
The family would like to sincerely thank AccentCare Hospice, Franklin, Tennessee and their staff for the wonderful care given to Peggy during the last few days of her earthly life, particularly our thanks goes out to the RN assigned for Peggy's care, Hanna Kling. Hanna, while being very professional with her duties, quickly became a close friend of Peggy's and the entire family. Her care for Peggy was second to none.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date for sweet Peggy. Memorials may be given in her honor to the building fund of Trinity Life Church, P. O. Box 13732, North Little Rock, Arkansas 72113.
