Rudianne “Rudi” Ferre, 88, passed away on September 3, 2022. Rudi was born in Saginaw, Michigan on January 29, 1934 to parents Conrad “Chum” and Georgiana “Jean” Lauckner. Rudi graduated from St. Mary’s Nursing School, Saginaw, Michigan in 1955. Through her work as a nurse she met her husband and love of her life, Dr. George Alan Ferré. Together they traveled across the country playing bridge tournaments as Life Masters.
Rudi was a lifelong learner with interests in photography, birding, reading, piano, gardening, and cooking, many of which she passed on to her children. She was unknowingly charismatic and never met a stranger. Rudi was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved her grandchildren immensely and delighted in their visits, letters, calls, and Facebook updates. Be it a graduation, new job, marriage, or baby, Rudi beamed with pride and wasted no time sharing their accomplishments with family and friends. When the grandchildren were younger, a visit to Rudi’s often involved learning how to draw still-life pictures and play the piano and enjoying the bounty of their baking experiments while watching movies together. Her family takes solace in these memories and knows she is at peace and of sound mind after living with dementia in her later years. Rudi was so sweet and lovely to all until her last breath.
Rudi is preceded in death by her husband George, brother Roger Lauckner, son Steven Ferre, and grandson Paul Warner Bond, Jr. George A. Ferré, Jr. (Eileen) predeceased her with 3 children and 3 great grandchildren.
She is survived by Suzanne Bond (Paul) and grandchildren Cooper, Lucy, and Jake; Staley Ferre (Tina Hummel), John Ferré (Wendy Dunleavy) and grandchildren Ian (Aila) and Megan (Matt); Kay Bates (Larry) and grandchildren Stephen Upton (Angela) and great grandchildren Kyle, Caleb, and Audry; Michael Bates (life partner Ricky Trogden); Sarah Bates (Clint Lemmon) and great grandchildren Harper, James and Wyatt; Diana, Carly and Jillian Bates; Nels Ferré (Leslie); Eileen Ferré and grandchildren George Ferré (Katie); Kathleen (Michael) Hartman and great grandchildren Ingrid, Eleanor, and Madeleine; and Tricia (Brian) McAuliffe.
Mom, we will always miss you. And as you often said to us, “See you later, alligator.” Mom, we will see you “after a while, crocodile.” Arrangements will follow at a later date.
