

Sylvia Marie Osbon Martin passed away November 3, 2021 in Brentwood, Tennessee after a brief illness. She was surrounded by her children. She was 86. Sylvia was born on May 1, 1935 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to William Oran Osbon and Alice Christina Johnson Osbon. Following in the footsteps of her father, she attended Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, where she met her husband Bob, She was a member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority. She later earned her Master’s Degree in Library Science from Peabody University Library School in Nashville, Tennessee. She worked as a librarian at Vanderbilt University Libraries until she retired from her position as Coordinator of General Technical Services Operations in 2000. Sylvia loved life and lived it to its fullest. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She loved to travel, read, play word games and work puzzles. She enjoyed reading history - especially books about the Civil War. She was a very passionate and avid bridge player and rarely missed a game with her friends at the Heritage at Brentwood. She was a huge movie fan and watched the Oscars every year. She is predeceased by her husband, Robert Nathan Martin, her parents, and her brother, Ronald Oran Osbon. Sylvia is survived by her children, Robert Kent Martin (Linda) and Dana Martin Currier (Lionel), grandchildren Ryan Martin (Katie), Nick Currier, Eric Martin (Joanna) and Lyle Currier. She was thrilled to have finally greeted great grandchild Reis Martin. Sylvia will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband in Mt. Olivet cemetery in Nashville in a private ceremony, as per her wishes.
