

Thomas was born on November 30, 1927 in Tell City, Indiana.
Thomas graduated from Indiana University in 1950, where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. Upon graduation he began employment as an accounting trainee with the Kroger Co. in Terre Haute, IN. He held various positions throughout Kroger in the accounting, auditing, and tax departments. In Shreveport in 1957, he met and married Peggy Davis in Jacksonville, Texas. After Cincinnati, Washington D.C. and Milwaukee, they moved to settle in Nashville in 1968. He retired in 1996 as the Director of Finance and Controller for the Nashville and Atlanta regions of Kroger. He provided support for the opening of Brentwood High School and was instrumental in the establishment of the band program. He was a member of the Brentwood United Methodist Church in 1968, serving three times on the Administrative Board of the church. He enjoyed playing golf and was a long time member of the Middle Tennessee Seniors Golf Association.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Peggy; daughters, Stephanie (David) Richardson and Melanie (Reid) Waltz; grandchildren, Sarah Mackenzie and Ethan Thomas Waltz; and brother, W. C. Cunningham of Evansville, Indiana.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 from two o’ clock in the afternoon until three o’clock at Brentwood United Methodist Church, 309 Franklin Rd, Brentwood, TN 37027 with Memorial service to follow at three o’ clock.
