
VASONE, Albino Joseph, age 84 of Weeki Wachee, formerly of Darien, CT passed away at hospice in Brooksville, FL surrounded by his loving family on Friday, November 25, 2011. Born on April 12, 1927 in Cecil, PA to the late John V. and Ida Maines Vasone, Albino graduated from Stamford H.S. in 1945 and served in the US Army and reserves. He attended the University of Bridgeport and was a 35 year employee of the Connecticut Natural Gas Co. (Greenwich division) before his retirement in 1989. He was Secretary-Treasurer for many years of the local chapter of the UWUA (AFL-CIO). Albino had many interests, but his two passions were baseball and music. Al played baseball in the Army and for the Stillwater Indians, fast-pitch softball for the Brass Rail Indians and until last November, he was an avid competitor in the West Hernando Athletic Club over-55 softball league. He was also a coach in Darien, volunteering countless hours coaching and managing in the Darien Little League, Babe Ruth League & Senior Babe Ruth League. He was a history buff and member of the Stamford, New York & Hartford Civil War Roundtable. Many of his friends will remember Al for his singing and entertainment at many events and social occasions. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Ursula Garschke Vasone of Weeki Wachee, FL and children, John Vasone and his wife Susan of Trumbull, CT, Daniel Vasone of Lake Worth, FL, Heidi Vasone of Asheville, NC, Karl Vasone and his wife Cheryl of Asheville, NC and Susan Vasone of Lake Worth, FL; ten loving grandchildren, Nick and Victoria Vasone, Peter and Rachel Vasone, Matthew Mahoney, Amanda and Dylan Schaaf, Jenni Camhi, Justin Vasone and Tristan Cox. Also, one great grandchild, Aiden Mahoney. He is also survived by his brother Bruno Vasone and sister Rose DeVito of Darien. A Memorial Service will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 28 at 2:00pm at the Glen Lakes Clubhouse in Weeki Wachee, FL. A Connecticut service is being planned for the spring of 2012.
