

Born and raised in Muskegon Heights, Michigan, she was one of eight children born to the late Christos “Chris” and Katheryn “Kate” Dendrinos. After graduating from Muskegon Heights High School, she went on to receive her nursing degree from Sparrow Hospital School of Nursing in Lansing, Michigan. Athena married Joseph “Joe” Gabriel in 1981 and retired from her nursing career. Joe and Athena established their home in Palm Harbor, Florida, and then moved to Brooksville, Florida, where they shared a life-long love of gardening, family and friends.
Athena is survived by her husband, Joseph Gabriel; sister, Georgia Zorn; sister-in-law, Dorothy Dendrino, and brother George Dendrinos (Jan); as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Athena is preceded in death by her sister, Angie White (Bob); four brothers, Michael Dennos (Barb), Peter Dendrinos (Peggy), Speros “Bud” Dendrino, and Angell “Ange” Dennis (Ann); as well as brother-in-law, Charles Zorn.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Athena’s life will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, August 5th at the Florida National Cemetery.
