Born in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania on September 25, 1947, to John R. Franklin and Sara Margaret Carbaugh Franklin, Dave’s family soon relocated to Tavares, Florida, where he was raised. He graduated from Tavares High School in 1965 and went on to earn a Bachelor's degree in Criminology from Florida State University in 1969. Later, he completed a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice from Rollins College in 1980.
After returning to Eustis, Dave began working with the Public Defender’s Office. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Sandra Ramer (Sandi) Franklin. The two were married in 1973 and soon moved to Brooksville, Florida, where Dave continued his work in the Public Defender’s Office and later served as an investigator for the State of Florida. He was also an active member of the Brooksville Kiwanis Club, serving his community with dedication and humility.
Dave and Sandi were blessed with one daughter, Jessica Franklin Tittle, who brought immense joy and pride into their lives. After coming into a personal saving relationship with the Lord, the Franklin family began attending First Presbyterian Church of Brooksville and later became charter members of Faith Church Brooksville. To say Dave was an avid hunter is an understatement, but he also enjoyed playing the guitar, riding his motorcycle and most importantly witnessing to the great saving power of Jesus to all he met. As one who had experienced the love and forgiveness and new life that Christ had given him, his earnest desire was to share this with others. Humbly, Pastor Dave would testify to his own shortcomings and the grace that the Lord continually showed him. This humility drew people to him.
Dave served faithfully as a deacon and ruling elder, and it was during this time that he sensed a call to pastoral ministry. He answered that call wholeheartedly, enrolling at Reformed Theological Seminary, where he earned a Master of Divinity in 1998. That same year, he retired from state service and, in May 1999, was called to serve as Assistant Pastor—later Associate Pastor—at Faith Church.
From the very beginning, Pastor Dave was at the heart of Faith Church. His steady leadership through many challenges was used mightily by the Lord. He taught and served in so many different areas over the years, most significantly he poured himself into youth ministry, helping lead countless mission trips across the country and connecting deeply with young people through his humor, authenticity, and unconventional style. He also ministered with compassion and wisdom through the church's mercy ministries, walking closely with those who faced sickness, death, or the loss of a loved one. His presence was a testimony to the hope, grace, and comfort found in Christ.
In 2018, Pastor Dave was honored with the title Pastor Emeritus by Faith Church—a reflection of his unwavering service to the Lord and his deep love for the body of believers. His passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of all who knew him, but his witness, warmth, and the faithful preaching of God's Word will continue to bear fruit for generations to come. Pastor Dave lived out his life by the Bible verse that says, “For me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.” Philippians 1:21.
He is survived by his beloved daughter, Jessica Tittle (Jimmy) and the light of his life, granddaughter, Esther Victoria “Tori” Tittle; his brother, John Franklin (and wife), sister-in-law Bobbi Shields, and mother-in-law Esther Ramer. He is preceded in death by his cherished wife, Sandi, whose love and partnership he carried with him always.
Visitation will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, May 10, 2025 at Faith Church, with Celebration of Life to follow at 2:00pm, and a reception afterwards. All are welcome to attend and celebrate the life of a man who lived with grace, strength, and unwavering faith.
“Well done, good and faithful servant!” Matthew 25:23
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Faith Church Brooksville in Pastor Dave’s honor.
