

He courageously served as a Combat Engineer in Operation Iraqi Freedom for our nation in the United States Army. He received several awards including: the National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, Army Service Ribbons, Overseas Service Ribbon, and the Combat Action Badge. He lived in Parrish, FL for the past six years.
He received his AA degree and attended UCF and UF. He loved playing golf and fishing with his dad. Derrick was a member of Eden Baptist Church and while there, he was active in the youth ministry and played a guitar in the praise band. He enjoyed going on several mission trips to Nicaragua and Honduras as well as actively serving in many local mission outreaches. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior when he was nine years old.
Two verses he loved and claimed as his own were John 10:27-29 and John 11:25-26. Derrick left this world on May 25, 2026 to find rest in the arms of Jesus.
He is survived by his parents, Damont and Kathie Drake of Parrish, FL; his sister, Dana Robinson (Lance); and his four nephews, Tristan, Reece, Nolan, Maddox and niece, Sierra Robinson of Myakka City, FL.
Our hearts are grateful for the years we had him in our family, and he will be forever missed. We rejoice in knowing we will see him again in heaven.

A Funeral Service will be held from 10:00-11:00am on Thursday, June 4, 2026 at Eden Baptist Church (22308 Lake Lindsey Road, Brooksville, FL 34601). A Graveside Service with military honors will follow at Lake Lindsey Cemetery (22371 Lake Lindsey Road, Brooksville, FL 34601).
