JOHNSTON, Douglas Michael, celebrated father, partner, uncle, brother, and friend to many unexpectedly passed away August 16, 2021 at the age of 67. He was the son of Shirley Roy Johnston and Dorothy Mabel. Douglas was born on November 7th, 1953, in Southbridge, Massachusetts. The family left when he was young and moved to Miami, Fl. He is preceded in death by his mother Dorothy, father Shirley, sister Susan and his beloved cat Shadow. Douglas is survived by his two siblings, Roy, and Debbie as well as his two children Ashley and Ryan and two grandchildren Elliott and Summer.
While in Miami, Douglas owned his own business, Johnston’s Painting. His honesty and dedication to his work led him to being valued and respected in the community. Providing such a high degree of craftsmanship allowed Douglas to run his business by word of mouth, he hardly ever had to advertise. He cherished his work and it showed.
Douglas soon settled down, got married and had two beautiful children, Ashley and Ryan. To say that he was an amazing father is an understatement. His profound love for his children never wavered. Being a wonderful father just came naturally to him. Doug never missed an event or game for his kids. He was always their biggest fan. His dedication as a father carried into all of their activities, he was a coach to Ryan and stage dad to Ashley. Nothing made him more proud than his kids. That pride grew exponentially when his two grandchildren Elliott and Summer were born. His last moments with his grandkids were of him climbing into play tubes and sliding down slides. His heart and spirit were what kept him young, even at 67 years old. He made such special memories with his grandchildren and those memories will be kept alive for years to come. Doug’s dedication to his family started at as a young man who would call to check on his mom and daily. This quality was carried on by his children Ashley and Ryan.
Doug was a simple man. He loved banana splits, Neapolitan ice cream, TV dinners, and soda (specifically Mountain Dew). He was an avid Beef O Brady’s customer. One of the most dedicated the franchise has ever seen. For the last 20 years, you could find Douglas at Beef’s on Thursdays spending time with his son and friends.
Doug was a loyal and heartfelt man. His heart knew no limits to its love for those special to him. He will be greatly miss by many. There will be a place saved for him at Beef’s as well as in our hearts. Our love for Doug and our memories of him will carry on in each one of us. We stand true in knowing that he is at peace with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We find peace knowing that love never dies and that he will be with us, always.
