Dr. Thomas E. Mathias

He was born on January 9, 1955 in Terre Haute, Indiana.  He graduated from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1985.  Following graduation, he completed his rotating internship at Metropolitan General Hospital in Pinellas Park, FL and went on to achieve his license to practice medicine in Florida in 1986. Dr. Mathias opened his own primary care practice and served his community doing what he loved for over 33 years. He was known for being a down-to-earth, caring, compassionate physician, who treated patients like family.

During his lifetime, Tom was blessed with a beautiful daughter named Whitney that he treasured. They enjoyed spending father-daughter time together, often around horses, be it taking care of them or at a horse show with Whitney competing.

Tom’s favorite past times included boating, auto racing, farming, gardening, and raising/breeding horses. He was an avid animal lover and enjoyed spoiling his pets that included horses, geese, and Dobermanns which were his passion.

He is predeceased by his daughter, Whitney Mathias; his parents, Darrell & Ellen (Graves) Mathias; and his brother, Jim Mathias. Tom is survived by his beloved wife, Stevie Mathias of Brooksville, FL, and a niece, Kim Mathias of Terre Haute, IN.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00am, Saturday, March 5, 2022 at Merritt Funeral Home, Brooksville Chapel, with Reverend Thomas Almond officiating.
