

Edward Nelson Briggs Jr. 90, of Spring Hill, FL. Ted peacefully moved on, on July 26, 2026 in his home on GoodmanDrin Spring Hill, FL. Ted was born at home on January 21, 1936 to Edward N. Briggs and Evelyn Louise Estelle Godfrey.
Edward (Ted) married Catherine (Cathy) in Narragansett, RI on March 2, 1962. Ted was a loving and dedicated husband and father.
Edward retired from the NETC Newport Fire Department after 26 years of service in the Federal Fire Department. He also served in the Army National Guard, receiving an honorable discharge in 1958 as a sharpshooter and marksman, and an honorable discharge in 1960 as a communication specialist and aircraft electrician. Over the course of his military journey from Private to Sergeant E-6, he received many letters of commendation. In 1986, he was awarded for five years of service with the North Kingston-Exeter Ambulance Association. He later worked security at Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut, as well as at the Greyhound track in Historic Tampa.
Edward’s interests reflected both skill and curiosity: mining for gemstones, collecting specimens, camping, woodworking, traveling, and jewelry making. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR, Drag Races, Demolition Derbies, and Rodeos.
Service to others remained a defining thread throughout Edward’s life. He began volunteering with local fire stations at the age of 16 and spent many years helping at The Salvation Army Food Pantry and working for the National Census. Most importantly, he gladly volunteered his skills and time to friends and family. Edward was always helping someone with something, offering his support with a devoted and dependable presence that will be deeply missed.
Ted is preceded in death by his wife Catherine Paula (Johnston) Briggs and his brother Robert Harold Briggs.
He is survived by his children, Robert Paul Briggs and Sarah Jo Briggs.
Edward Nelson Briggs will be dearly missed and respectfully remembered.
