WAHLER, Edward A., age 88, died Tuesday, January 23, 2018, surrounded by family and friends at Crown Pointe Assisted Living Facility. He was born in Queens, New York and came to Spring Hill, Florida 31 years ago from Montvale, New Jersey. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, stationed in Malta from 1951 to 1953. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University. He was employed as a Sales Manager in the transportation industry in New Jersey, while he raised his family and attended college in the evenings. He received his Masters degree in Education from William Paterson College in New Jersey in 1973. He relocated to Florida in 1987 where he taught at Shady Hills Elementary and Dr. Mary Giella Elementary Schools, both in Pasco County, FL, fulfilling his lifelong dream of teaching. He taught school until he retired at 70 years old, and then continued teaching English as a second language to local residents. He was a history lover, and had accumulated vast knowledge of American History ranging from the early settlers to current day. Ed enjoyed vacationing in Lake George NY, boating, swimming in his pool, fishing, traveling with his wife, photography and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He had a wonderful smile, a memorable hearty laugh, and he loved to dance and sing. Over the last ten years he was loved immensely by many loyal and dedicated caregivers. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years: Cecelia Wahler; daughters and sons-in-law: Nancy and Gerald Mayfield; Patricia and Henry Yost, all of Spring Hill, FL; Cynthia Sfraga and Mike McLaurine of Land O’ Lakes, FL; sons and daughters-in-law: Edward and Annette Wahler of Oakland, NJ; Joseph and Victoria Wahler of Montvale, NJ; brother and sister-in-law: Ronald and Kathy Wahler of Dillon, CO; 8 grandchildren: Clinton Lauritsen, Angela (Michael) Holiga; Meghan Sfraga, Michael Yost, Brian Wahler, Morgan Wahler, Jack Wahler and Madison Wahler. Inurnment with Military Honors will be conducted at 11:00am, Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Florida National Cemetery. A Memorial service will follow at 1:00pm at the Good Shephard Chapel at Crown Pointe Senior Assisted Living Facility, with a celebration of life gathering immediately following service at Silverthorne Country Club, Spring Hill. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer's Association-Florida Gulf Coast Chapter.
