Elizabeth Lee McIntyre

MCINTYRE, Elizabeth Lee Vause (Betty Lee), eldest daughter of Clarence and Bernice Vause, was born on March 14, 1924 in Micanopy, Florida and passed away February 25, 2013 in Vero Beach, Florida.  After her birth, the family soon moved to Citrus County where Betty Lee grew up and attended school.  She graduated from Citrus County High in 1942.  After graduation she moved to Brooksville, Florida where she went to work for the county superintendent of schools.  It was in Brooksville that she met and, on October 4, 1944, married Eddie McIntyre, her husband until his death in January of 2009. As Betty Lee followed her husband as he pursued his career at stops in Florida, Georgia and North Carolina, she held a number of interesting jobs in addition to being a mother and housewife.  At different times she was a deputy sheriff, worked in the personnel office at a U.S. Air Force base, kept the books on seventy-plus “Stuckey” stations at company headquarters in Eastman, Georgia, and was personnel manager for Knox Homes in Thomson, Georgia. In 1975 she was finally able to realize her lifelong dream of becoming a nurse, as she described in her senior essay in high school, when she graduated from the nursing program at Blue Ridge Technical College in Hendersonville, North Carolina.  She worked for more than fifteen years as an ICU and CCU nurse before retiring from Lykes Memorial Hospital in Brooksville.  Betty Lee was always active in the Presbyterian Church, USA becoming one of the first women to be ordained deacon.  She was also an active member and officer of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Along with her husband, Eddie, she was also preceded in death by her grandson, Daniel Edward McIntyre. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Phyllis, and her granddaughter, Katie.  Her two surviving sisters, Annie Mae Hensley and Jeanette Walter, live in Inverness, Florida and Wilmington, Delaware, respectively. Mrs. McIntyre also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and their children. Visitation for friends  will be 6:00-7:30pm, Friday, March 1, 2013 at Merritt Funeral Home, Brooksville Chapel and  9:30-11:00am, Saturday, March 2, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church of Brooksville where funeral services will begin at 11:00am with Reverend Bob Hope officiating. Interment will follow at Brooksville Cemetery.
