George is survived by his wife Betty, sister Maryann, two sons: Joseph and George V, four grandchildren, one great grandchild , and nieces and nephews in the New York tri-state area and California.
George was a retired firefighter with the city of New York and a retired Master Sargent with the New York Air National Guard. He had a passion for playing softball and played well into his seventies. He served in the Navy during the Korean War and was too young to enlist, so his father signed papers for his son to join the Navy at age 17. He was a diver on the USS Coral Sea and served honorably until his discharge after 4 years of service.
George began his work life as an auto mechanic after his tour in the Navy, but was offered jobs in the NYPD and NYFD, accepting to become a probie with the New York Fire Department where he served for twenty one years. Dad loved his family, his career as a firefighter, and his love for playing softball. He would have been 88 years young on September 28. Rest in Peace Dad. Our hearts are heavy now, but we know you’re free of any pain and suffering.
Your loving family,
Betty, Joe, and George V
