

He lived his whole life in the house he was born in on Brooksville Avenue. He was a dedicated stock trader and real estate broker after graduating from Hernando High School and the University of Florida. A wise steward of the land, he loved the pine forests and other natural habitats of Hernando County. He was a member of the Florida Native Plant Society and the Florida Farm Bureau. George was exceptionally generous and supportive of family and friends who needed his help.
He is preceded in death by his loving parents, Onan and Audrey Whitehurst; sister, Mary Audrey Wilson of Tampa; brother, John Onan Whitehurst MD of Atlanta; and nephew, John Burritt Blake of Tampa. He is survived by family and friends that will miss him greatly: sister-in-law, Mary Jane Whitehurst; nieces, nephews, and their families: Betsy Arizu (Peter); W. Campbell Blake (Laura); George Blake MD; Lynda White (Ganon), Jane Adkisson (Wayne) and Jim Whitehurst (Lauren); and friend, Theresa Waycaster.
There will be a graveside memorial service at 10:00am, Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at Brooksville Cemetery, 1275 Olmes Road, Brooksville, Florida, followed by a reception at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 200 South Brooksville Avenue.
