Horace Hampton Jacobs

JACOBS,  Horace Hampton “Jake”,  age 73 of Spring Hill died Wednesday,  September 8, 2010 at Oak Hill Hospital. Born October 20, 1936 in Columbia, SC, he was the oldest son of Horace & Clara Mae Jacobs. He graduated from Dreher High School in Columbia, SC in 1953 and served in the US Air Force 7th Air Division from 1953 to 1959. He, along with his wife Patty, were owners of P.J.’s Army-Navy Surplus and was also a member of the Mariner United Methodist Church. He was an avid fan of the Clemson Tigers; a friend to many and loved by all who knew him. He is predeceased by his parents: Horace & Clara Jacobs and brother: Lawrence E. Jacobs. Survivors include his wife of 28 years: Patty; sons & daughters-in-law: John Hampton & Sandra Jacobs of Williamston, SC and David Edward & Terry Jacobs of Waxhaw, NC; daughter & son-in-law: Rainey &  US Army Sgt. Erich Helton of Ft. Hood, TX; brother & sister-in-law: John Thomas & Paula Jacobs of Lexington, SC; sister & brother-in-law: Sylvia & Joe Brown of Atlanta, GA; sister-in-law: Debbie Jacobs of Charleston, SC; 3 grandchildren: Misty Fisher and Jason & Brooke Jacobs and 2 great grandsons: Jeremy & Peyton. Visitation for friends will be 4-8pm, Friday, September 10, 2010 at Merritt Funeral Home, Spring Hill Chapel were a funeral service will be conducted 11am Saturday, September 11, 2010 with Reverend John L. Hay, Jr. officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Curlew Pioneer Cemetery, Palm Harbor, FL.
